What's The Story?

queen-award-small-squareSublime Science are on a mission to make science awesome for one million children.

(Mad) Marc Wileman founded Sublime Science with a £1,750 Prince's Trust loan back in 2008, aged just 22.

Marc's best known as that guy that fired smoke rings at the Dragons on Dragons' Den wearing a slime covered lab coat but went on to secure Dragon investment.

Marc is utterly humbled to have won a Great British Entrepreneur Award, been labelled "a visionary" by Forbes and won a Queen's Award for Enterprise but most important of all to have made science awesome for more than 500,000 children.

He's been a professional 'science communicator' (maker of slime and launcher of rockets!) across 4 continents for close to a decade.

His passion to make science awesome has lead him to take on the Dragons in the Den, share fun science experiments with millions on ITV dontcoverimagetightThis Morning and share his ideas as a TEDx speaker. He holds a First Class Masters Degree in Physics (Universities of Nottingham & Toronto).

Marc is honoured to have helped break a Guinness World Record with Richard Branson's 29 hour pitchathon and to have given away more than 100,000 free copies of 5 Star Amazon science experiment book Don't Eat Your Slime!

“Starting a business, particularly if you are young and don’t have any money and contacts, is unbelievably tough,” says Wileman, who worked as a science educator before becoming an entrepreneur. “You don’t want to sound like you’re moaning about stuff, but it’s unbelievably difficult. The first year I probably worked 15 hours a day, seven days a week and didn’t take a day off for 12 months.

But that hard work paid off. Today the business he started in 2008 brings in seven-figure revenue—and Wileman is gunning to hit a big goal: Making science “awesome” for 1 million children at the company’s parties”

Why More Young People Should Set Up Their Own Business

Nothing in this world is ever easy. To achieve your goals and be successful you need drive, determination, support and a little bit of luck. Becoming self-employed is no exception. When I first had the idea of Sublime Science, which recently featured on BBC 2’s Dragons’ Den, I was extremely excited but also daunted by the task that I’d set myself. As is the case with so many other entrepreneurs I’ve met on my journey so far, once the idea got into my head – it was impossible to let it go.

"The Prime Minister... wishes you further success in the future as you continue to inspire more young people to take an interest in science” - 10 Downing Street
