How to Make a Balloon Kebab - Transcript

So this experiment is called the balloon kebab and I’ll show you why, all you need to do, all you need rather is and one of these little kebab skewer things. First of all blow up your balloon and the challenge is, the puzzle to this is how to put the kebab skewer through the balloon, obviously without the balloon going pop.

So as soon as you do this obviously the balloon is going to go bang, but the trick to it is using the slightly thicker bit of plastic over here, so we try this in first.

So where it’s thicker and slightly darker, hopefully with any little luck you can push your skewer through the balloon rather and hopefully you can see that inside of there, about halfway through and then if you line that up with the end, just about that and if you’re lucky, hope actually you will be, has to just push it through… so you end up with a balloon kebab on the stick.

So what going on, why doesn’t it pop, well the trick is the little, little tiny bits of air are escaping, but because the plastic is a little bit thicker, it's stretching around and keeping that seal and keeping the air in. So get yourself a balloon, get yourself a kebab skewer and give it a go.
