An absolute classic science experiment and a great way to impress your friends at a dinner party.
(only if you have the same type of friends that I do!)
All you'll need is a wine glass, so let's get started!
What Do I Need?
- A wine glass (any old one will do!)
- Some water
How Do I Do It?
STEP1 - First off, take your wine glass and half fill it with water!
STEP2 - Next, clean your hands (when your hands are clean you'll get more grip!)
STEP3 - Wet the rim of the glass with some water and then wet your finger too.
Press your finger down quite hard onto the glass and slide it round the rim of the glass in a smooth, circular motion until the glass starts to shriek!
(This does take a few goes to get the hang of but is well worth it once you've got your glass shrieking!)
What’s Going On?
This one is all to do with resonance!
We know that every sound in the world is caused by a vibration and in this case it's the glass itself that's vibrating.
Those vibrations are amplified by the shape of the glass!
